THERAPEUTIC YOGA
Therapeutic yoga is designed specifically for individuals with an orthopedic and/or neurologic conditions, who need guidance to move in the presence of pain or fear/avoidance thinking. This program may be particularly helpful for people preparing for surgery who want to prevent or address deconditioning, as well as for those in the post-operative period working to safely return to activity despite pain or functional limitations. The class will focus on: • Gentle, accessible movement tailored to varying levels of mobility • Breathing techniques to support nervous system regulation • Postural awareness and stability • Mindful movement strategies for strengthening and conditioning |
Nancy (Nan) Ball is a retired MD/physiatrist, and Yoga Teacher (2008). Nan integrated daily yoga concepts and practices into her medical practice with Maine Neurosurgery and Spine as a non-surgical spine specialist until her retirement in 2024. Nan is currently enrolled in a 500-hour YTT program and is passionate about using the tools of therapeutic yoga/a yoga therapy approach in addressing the challenges of the aging body, and any physical body that is slowed by a neurologic and/or orthopedic challenge.
